- <p> CLEARED. JANET MALCOLM, 59, journalist; of libel allegations;
- in San Francisco. Known for her indictments of journalistic
- ethics, Malcolm was herself the target of a lawsuit by renegade
- psychoanalyst Jeffrey Masson, who claimed that she fabricated
- quotes attributed to him in a New Yorker profile. A federal
- jury has found in Malcolm's favor--although it agreed she
- had indeed falsified two of the quotes, even if there was no
- proof she had done so with a "reckless disregard for ((their))
- truth or falsity."
